Maçonnerie et aménagement : un dialogue harmoniex entre la maison et les espaces extérieurs

Masonry and Landscape Design: Creating a Dialogue Between the Residence and Outdoor Spaces

On this large-scale residential project, masonry and landscape design work together to create a cohesive whole. Mondrian stone and Melville Norman brick structure the home’s facades, while Melville 60 slabs define the ground-level surfaces, including terraces, walkways and the areas surrounding the outdoor pavilion and fire pit. This clear distribution of materials establishes a visual connection between the 5,000-square-foot home and the expansive outdoor space, while clearly distinguishing the different zones.

The combination of light tones, darker elements and metal accents results in a contemporary composition enhanced by natural light and a carefully integrated landscape design.

Light Colours Enhanced by Dark Accents

The Blizzard colour, very light in tone, serves as the foundation of the entire project. It reflects natural light and highlights the residence’s large wall surfaces. In contrast, Melville Norman brick in Rockland Black brings definition to the facade through darker surfaces with crisp lines. Its smooth finish and elongated format visually extend the black metal window frames and integrate seamlessly with wood accents, giving the house a well-defined contemporary signature.

Blizzard Mondrian Stone on Large Surfaces

Installed in a linear pattern, Mondrian stone in Blizzard emphasizes the building’s horizontal lines and reinforces the clean, streamlined appearance of the facade. Its elongated format, available in varied lengths including several units over 28 inches, is particularly well suited to large wall surfaces and introduces a natural rhythm.

Mondrian stone can also be installed in a modular pattern, combining different formats according to a predefined layout. This option adds visual elegance while maintaining a structured, balanced composition.

A Smooth Brick to Structure the Architecture

Melville Norman brick in Rockland Black adds sharp definition to the architecture. Its slim, elongated format highlights specific areas of the residence, such as recesses and vertical sections, helping visually differentiate the various parts of the building. Its smooth finish contrasts with the subtly textured surface of Mondrian stone, creating a variation of materials that enhances each one. This pairing structures the facade with precision and gives it strong character.

Masonry That Extends Into the Outdoor Spaces

One of the project’s key strengths is the continuity between the home and its outdoor areas. Mondrian stone is echoed as an accent at the entrance, inside the residence, around the garage and continues toward the outdoor living pavilion, reinforcing the connection between living spaces. The terrace, pool and even the outdoor skating rink integrate naturally into the overall design thanks to Melville 60 slabs. With their smooth surface and clean edge, these slabs create clear circulation zones and highlight the vertical masonry. Their range Newport Grey colour blends harmoniously with the facade without competing with them.

A Contemporary Style That Is Not Limited to One Aesthetic

While this project has a distinctly contemporary feel, the Blizzard colour also lends itself to other architectural styles. When paired with more rustic materials or traditional elements, it can suit a farmhouse-inspired house just as well. Mondrian stone, with its format and texture, is versatile enough to adapt to a wide range of home designs.

When Masonry Structures the Entire Project

This project illustrates how stone, brick and slabs can shape an entire property, far beyond their role as surface finishes. Here, Permacon products are used to organize spaces, connect indoor and outdoor environments and give the property a distinctive identity. This approach demonstrates the full potential of masonry when it is integrated from the earliest stages of design.
