At Permacon, we believe that supporting the next generation is just as important as developing innovative products. With this in mind, our team visited Collège Montmorency on September 17 to take part in a planting activity with students from the Landscape and Green Space Management program (formerly Landscape and Ornamental Horticulture Marketing).
This project gave students the opportunity to put their knowledge into practice in a real-world setting while discovering landscaping solutions used throughout the industry.
A Program Focused on Sustainable Design and Landscaping
Under the guidance of Naomi Jarry, teacher and coordinator of the Horticulture Department, students develop a wide range of skills related to landscaping and green space management.
Throughout their training, they learn to:
- Enhance the urban forest through inspections and recommendations;
- Design sustainable landscaping plans;
- Coordinate landscaping projects and work teams;
- Install and maintain plants in a variety of green space environments.
Initiatives like this give students valuable hands-on experience by allowing them to work on real projects and connect with industry professionals.
A Project Made Possible Through Collaboration
During the planting activity, Maxime Denicolai, Permacon’s Landscaping Sales Director, and Richard Caissy, representative at Pavescompte, gave students a brief presentation on Artex products, their features and their various landscaping applications.
The presentation gave students an opportunity to learn more about how these solutions can contribute to functional and sustainable green spaces while meeting the needs of residential, commercial and institutional projects.
A Valuable Hands-On Experience
The day began around 8:15 a.m. with Jardin Dion, which worked alongside the students to plant large-calibre trees.
The students then continued the planting work until 11 a.m., putting into practice concepts and techniques learned throughout their program.
Catalina Trujillo, Marketing Coordinator at Permacon, was also there to capture moments from the activity and connect with students about their studies, interests and perspectives on the landscaping industry. These discussions, in particular, highlighted how the program is transforming the way they observe the spaces around them. As one student explains: “This technique helps me refine my perspective on landscape design. Before, a flower bed was just a flower bed. Now, I notice the plants, the details, and their impact on the space.”
