There are backyards where everything seems to move at a slower pace, where you naturally flow from the pool to the dining area, from the fire pit to the outdoor lounge, without giving it a second thought. This project is a perfect example. Here, the design does not aim to impress, but rather to create a calm, structured and enjoyable setting—one that feels good to live in, day after day.
Everything has its place, and the overall layout invites you to enjoy the outdoors as you would at a vacation retreat.
An Open, Well-Proportioned Pool Deck
The large surfaces around the pool are finished with range Amber Beige Mega Melville slabs. Their large format allows the space to be covered without visually overwhelming it. The number of joints is reduced, the lines remain clean and the pool deck maintains an open feel, even across expansive areas.
The linear laying pattern reinforces this sense of order and naturally follows the house. Other laying patterns, such as checkerboard or herringbone, could also have been used, but here, the simplicity of the layout enhances the relaxed atmosphere being sought.
A Natural Continuity Around the Pool
The range Amber Beige Melville capping pairs seamlessly with the Mega Melville slabs. Same colour, same smooth texture: the transition between surfaces is fluid and uninterrupted. The pool edge is clearly defined while remaining understated.
This continuity creates a sense of unity and contributes to the refined look of the layout, without drawing unnecessary attention to technical details.
Multiple Uses, Thoughtfully Spaced
The backyard accommodates several distinct areas:
- an open, uncluttered pool area
- a fire pit area designed for extended evenings
- an outdoor dining area directly connected to the house
The living areas are spaced far enough apart to function independently without interfering with one another, yet they remain visually connected through the same surface material. This layout avoids a layered or crowded feel and allows for natural, intuitive movement.
A Resort Feel Without Excess
The resort-inspired atmosphere is achieved through open surfaces, carefully selected materials and a limited colour palette, rather than through the addition of decorative elements. Large-format slabs, continuous lines and warm tones are enough to transform the backyard into a place of relaxation. The Mega Melville slab structures the layout and allows the living areas—the pool, fire pit and dining space—to take centre stage.
